Live Kind Choose Happiness Unleash Learning
What we have been up to…
Math: Students worked on rounding of whole numbers and decimals. We took a quiz today. If your child receives a 75% or lower on this quiz, I will be working with them on Monday during part of his/her recess. These students may take a retake on Tuesday.
Reading: Choosing books of interest can be one of the most challenging parts of being an enthusiastic reader. This week we browsed books and identified the characteristics of various genres to give us a deeper understanding of what various genres have to offer. This way we feel like we better understand our options as a reader.
We used our feedback rubric to provide feedback to our peers and ourselves this week. We will look more closely at our feedback, and revise our responses. We reflected on how providing feedback deepens our own understanding of the expectations, encourages us to look more closely at our work and experience to responsibility to choose the right words and feedback.
We continued reading The One and Only Ivan. Ivan continues to touch our hearts and is rapidly becoming part of our classroom.
Science: We continue to focus on the effect variables have on our investigations. We learned that only one variable should be different in an experiment and that is what is being tested. We also began to evaluate how to look at data to determine whether or not variables were controlled in an experiment.
Social Studies: Classes presented the heritage of their names. We had a lot of fun as we learned more about each other. Thanks for any extra guidance with this task. We also continue map skills…working on latitude and longitude.
Word Study: We had our second spelling test. These should be returned to the students on Monday of next week. It will be normal routine for us to have a pretest on Monday and words should come home that day. We have talked about picking appropriate words for our skill level…not too hard that it leads to so much frustration, but challenging enough so we are learning new patterns and vocabulary. Parent activity will be assigned on Monday for homework (choose 1) and S.O.S. (choose 1) on Tuesday evening. Students are enjoying the choice activities on Tuesday evenings.J Tests will be on Fridays. Thanks for any support on these skills.
